OREGON TEA PARTY PAC COMMENTS ON SUPREME COURT RULING ON OBAMACARE
June 28, 2012, Portland, OR
The Oregon Tea Party PAC expressed disappointment in today’s Supreme Court ruling on the individual mandate portion of President Obama’s healthcare law, but noted that this is merely the first step in the process of full repeal of this onerous bill.
John Kuzmanich, Chairman of Oregon Tea Party PAC, stated, “I’m stunned that the individual mandate was upheld. Apparently Justice Roberts’ opinion places limits on the expansion of the Federal Government under the Commerce Clause, but I don’t believe most Americans will be satisfied knowing that they can now be forced to buy a product from a private company against their wishes. When the Nancy Pelosi / Harry Reid Congress passed this bill, it was sold as a lie. Despite their claims, this is a huge tax on businesses and the middle class. As we’ve said all along, this is a massive tax increase that the American people overwhelmingly oppose, during the worst economic downturn of our lives. One thing is certain – this ruling has motivated our grass roots volunteers like nothing we’ve seen. We’re already hearing from our volunteers that they are motivated like never before.”
Jeff Reynolds, who sits on the PAC’s Leadership Council, expressed optimism that this is only the beginning of the journey. “Justice Roberts, in my opinion, made the wrong decision in upholding Obamacare as constitutional. That said, he gave us something to work with in his opinion. He declared the mandate a tax, catching Obama in a bold faced lie. Oregonians want real reform, but adding massive new spending and massive new regulations will do nothing to contain healthcare costs.”
Geoff Ludt, founder of Oregon Tea Party, laid out a course of action in the fight to repeal the bill. “The Supreme Court has passed the case back to the people — it is in our court now and we know what we are to do next. We will elect principled leadership to reinforce Conservatives in the House of Representatives as well as win the Senate, we will defeat Barack Obama and we will repeal his law.”
The Oregon Tea Party PAC calls on all Conservatives, Libertarians, Republicans, Independents and Democrats who want real reform to set aside their differences and work to defeat the common enemy – President Obama and his big government policies that are choking off growth and jobs in America. Healthcare reform should be market-based and patient-centered, not another massive government entitlement that will get in the way of private sector job growth. November is coming.
